Softball Recap: Loyola Academy Takes Down New Trier in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Loyola Academy walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the New Trier Trevians a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Ramblers in their matchups with the Trevians: they've now won nine in a row.

Hunter Lewis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Herbert, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

Loyola Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got Loyola Academy back to even at 15-15. As for New Trier, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

As of now, neither Loyola Academy nor the Trevians have any future games scheduled.
