Soccer Game Preview: Villa Park vs. Esperanza

The Villa Park Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Esperanza Aztecs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Villa Park has five straight wins, Esperanza has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Villa Park's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Crean Lutheran by a score of 2-0. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Saints are ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Esperanza lost 4-1 to Brea Olinda on Friday.

Villa Park's victory bumped their record up to 11-2-3. As for Esperanza, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-3.

Villa Park was able to grind out a solid win over Esperanza in their previous meeting on January 3rd, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Villa Park since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
