Softball Game Preview: Doherty Memorial Highlanders vs. Leominster Blue Devils

Doherty Memorial has gone a perfect 3-0 against Leominster recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Highlanders will head out on the road to challenge the Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. Doherty Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Doherty Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat Auburn and fell 2-1. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Riley Cormier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Doherty Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella LLanos, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, while it was Leominster who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was Acton-Boxborough who put up more. The Blue Devils took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Revolution. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Revolution: they've now lost four in a row.

Doherty Memorial's record is now 2-2. As for Leominster, their record now sits at 1-1.

Doherty Memorial skirted past Leominster 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
