League recap: Jarrell climbs in state rankings

2A-2 Region IV District 14 recap November 5, 2013

Jarrell scaled the state rankings by moving to 527 from 568 this week, the biggest jump in 2A-2 Region IV District 14. The Cougars climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Schulenburg 39-28.

Rogers added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lexington, 69-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Eagles.

Jarrell's dynamic duo of Tony Brown and Emilio Villafranco proved tough for the Shorthorns to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns and Villafranco had 114 yards receiving. Dacious Barr helped Jarrell's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 78 yards.

He was 14-23 with 1 interception.

Schulenburg's Ross Bludau and Jeffrey Lara have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Bludau has thrown for 1,543 yards this season, while Lara has 33 catches for 758 yards. De Sean Johnson from Jeremy Beutler's team leads the league in rushing with 1,010 yards.

Brown has rushed for 933 yards on 116 carries so far this year.

An important game coming up in 2A-2 Region IV District 14 this week will be when Rogers takes on Johnson City. As it stands, Jeff Walker's team is in first, while the Eagles are in fifth.
