Recap: Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans vs. Cypress Bay Lightning
The Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 55-43 to Cypress Bay on Friday. Somerset College Prep Academy found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 15 to 6 on offense.
Despite the loss, Somerset College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: Kaeley Ciceron scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Ciceron is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Laylah Dawkins, who scored six points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cypress Bay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sofia Gonano, who scored 18 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Agam Gago, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Somerset College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Cypress Bay, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Somerset College Prep Academy will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Somerset Academy - Canyons at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Somerset Academy - Canyons presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Somerset College Prep Academy in Florida (Somerset Academy - Canyons is ranked 47th, while Somerset College Prep Academy is ranked 166th). Cypress Bay won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Saint Andrew's at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Saint Andrew's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
