With 389 total yards and seven touchdowns in a 54-14 win over La Jolla, Mission Bay (San Diego, Calif.) star Dillon Baxter may have strengthened his case as the leader for MaxPreps.com National Player of the Year honors.
On a weekend where his future school USC was humbled in a loss at Oregon, Baxter gave Trojan fans something to look forward to.

In South Carolina, Byrnes teammates Chas Dodd and Marcus Lattimore continued to pile up numbers in a 72-27 mauling of Mauldin. The duo has helped the Rebels go 23-2 over the past two seasons and both remain serious players for POY mention as the program gears up for an extended playoff run.

Dillon Baxter, Sr., QB/RB, Mission Bay (San Diego, Calif.)
Update: More of the same from Baxter this week in a 54-14 win over La Jolla as Mission Bay improved to 8-0. The senior all-purpose star threw for 196 yards and four touchdowns while running for 193 more and three scores. The future USC Trojan has accounted for six or more touchdowns in five straight games. Baxter has passed and run for 2,945 yards and 45 touchdowns this season.
Gavin Webster, Sr., QB, Lutcher (La.)
Update: Webster and Lutcher (9-0) have engineered back-to-back 54-0 blowouts in the last two weeks with Vandebilt Catholic the victim on Friday. The 5-foot-10 senior turned in another big performance, passing for 263 yards, running for 129 more and accounting for six scores. With over 2,200 yards passing and nearly 700 on the ground, a 3,500/1,000-type season is within reach.
Chas Dodd, Sr., QB, Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.)
Update: Byrnes improved to 9-1 by blasting Mauldin 72-27 behind Dodd’s 294 yards and five touchdowns through the air on 16 of 26 passing. The Rebels are averaging 51.9 points per game this season as Dodd has piled up 2,569 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air.
Kevin Parks, Sr., RB, West Rowan (Mt. Ulla, N.C.)
Update: West Rowan (10-0) did not play last week. Parks, a Virginia commitment, has run for 2,428 yards and 35 touchdowns this season and 9,549 yards and 134 scores in his career.
Malcolm Jones, Sr., RB, Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.)
Update: With Oaks Christian dominating its competition in recent weeks (the Lions beat Oak Park 59-0 on Friday), Jones has carried the ball just 35 times in the last four weeks. He has still managed to post 1,316 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground for the season and has tallied 42 tackles, an interception and a sack at linebacker.
Marcus Lattimore, Sr., RB, Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.)
Update: Lattimore rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in Byrnes’ 72-27 thrashing of Mauldin, but it’s looking more and more like his POY campaign will be overshadowed by the huge season teammate Chas Dodd is having at the quarterback position. Regardless, Lattimore will go down as one of the all-time greats from the Palmetto State.
Rushel Shell, So., RB, Hopewell (Aliquippa, Pa.)
Update: While Shell is still a longshot to climb to the top of this list, we might as well ship the National Sophomore of the Year award to Hopewell High School now. The 6-0, 210-pounder reached 2,000 yards on the season in a 49-0 win over Moon Area as the Vikings improved to 9-0.
Michael Brewer, Jr., QB, Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)
Update: Brewer continues to guide the Lake Travis (9-0) machine with efficiency, hitting on 18 of 23 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-0 win over Dripping Springs. The Cavaliers have won 39 games in a row and are averaging 51.5 points per game this fall. Brewer has thrown for 2,919 yards and 28 touchdowns against just one interception.
Ka’Deem Carey, Jr., RB, Canyon del Oro (Tucson, Ariz.)
Update: Canyon del Oro (9-0) did not play last week. Carey has rushed for 1,647 yards and 22 touchdowns this season.
Deontae Cooper, Sr., RB, Citrus Hill (Perris, Calif.)
Update: Cooper needed just eight games to top 2,000 yards on the ground, turning in 342 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries in his latest outing (a 28-7 win over Menifee Heritage). The University of Washington verbal commitment’s season totals stand at 2,075 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns.
