Basketball Recap: West Comes Up Short

West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Northwest Grizzlies and fell 79-52. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd in Kansas, while the Grizzlies are ranked 35th in Kansas).

West lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Treg Hardeman, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Maholmes, who scored nine points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than River Peters, who shot 4-for-7 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Peters' seventh in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Darrian Hammond, who went 8-for-10 to rack up 20 points.

West's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Northwest, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-41 loss against Heights on the 21st. As for Northwest, they have also already played their next game, a 75-70 defeat against Kapaun Mt. Carmel on the 21st.
