Basketball Recap: Marquette Catholic's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Andrean, Marquette Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They secured a 69-63 W over the Hammond Morton Governors. For the Blazers, this counts as revenge for the 89-60 victory the Governors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Marquette Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aleks Pecoski out in front who went 5 of 9 on his way to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Vaughn Rael-Kludt, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Several Governors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Woods, who went 9 for 12 en route to 23 points. Woods is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dashawn Woods, who put up 14 points and six assists.

Marquette Catholic's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9. As for Hammond Morton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Marquette Catholic will take on Hammond Bishop Noll at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Hammond Bishop Noll's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Hammond Morton, they will square off against Griffith at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th.
