Softball Recap: Wellston Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

While Wellston's victory against Southern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Golden Rockets had just enough and edged out the Tornadoes 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Rockets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lyla Pittenger was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Childers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Kennedi Stevens was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Wellston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.

Wellston's record is now 20-7. As for Southern, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-3.

Coming up, Wellston will take on Eastern in a tournament on Monday. As for Southern, they will head out to face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tornadoes 3.7, Eastern 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
