Basketball Recap: Owen Kolesa's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Father Mcgivney Catholic over New Athens + How To Watch

Father McGivney Catholic lost against New Athens back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Griffins took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. The loss was the Griffins' first of the season.

Several Griffins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Kolesa, who shot 54% from the field on his way to 18 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Kolesa is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Carson Barone, who went 5-for-9 en route to 14 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Father McGivney Catholic fell to 4-1. As for New Athens, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Father McGivney Catholic and New Athens will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Griffins will square off against rival Metro-East Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, New Athens is set to take on their familiar foe Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
