Basketball Recap: Defiance Falls Short of Shawnee in the Playoffs

Defiance and Shawnee squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Defiance had to settle for second. They lost to the Shawnee Indians on the road by a 58-43 margin. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Shawnee found their leader in sophomore Trevick Bertke, who went 9-for-16 to rack up 29 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Bertke has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Beckett Bertke, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

Defiance's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Shawnee, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-2.

Defiance does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shawnee, they will square off against Central Catholic at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Shawnee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games.
