Recap: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks
It was a good run, but the Fleming Island Golden Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Ponte Vedra, falling 63-31. Fleming Island has struggled against Ponte Vedra recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Fleming Island still got an impressive performance from London Jenkins, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Jenkins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Noble, who scored eight points.
Leading Ponte Vedra to victory were Kennedy Rosendahl and Breah Usry. Rosendahl scored 17 points, while Usry scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Usry has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maya Richards, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Fleming Island's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12. As for Ponte Vedra, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Fleming Island will square off against St. Johns Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Johns Country Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday. As for Ponte Vedra, they will be playing at home against University Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. University Christian's defense has only allowed 25.4 points per game this season, so Ponte Vedra's offense will have their work cut out for them.
