Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Falls Despite Big Games from Juliya Smith and Skye Douglas

Fort Myers lost against Cape Coral back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Fort Myers Green Wave took a 42-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cape Coral Seahawks.

Despite the defeat, Fort Myers had strong showings from Skye Douglas, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, and Juliya Smith, who scored eight points along with 11 boards and three blocks. Smith is crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Taylor Hargrove was another key player, putting up five points.

Fort Myers' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Cape Coral, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Myers will venture away from home to challenge Naples at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cape Coral, they will challenge Oasis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
