Softball Recap: Charlotte Latin's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Charlotte Latin hadn't done well against Cannon recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Cougars 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Cougars on April 3rd, they had to take a 5-4 defeat.

Sydney Thune and Ainsley Sullivan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Thune tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Sullivan struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Thune went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Sullivan went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Lila McConnell was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

The victory (which was Charlotte Latin's fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-2. As for Cannon, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 11-6-1 record.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Charlotte Latin is set to face off against their familiar foe Covenant Day at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 2.1, the Lions 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Cannon will challenge rival Providence Day at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
