Softball Recap: Wirt County Triumphs

Wirt County posted their closest win since March 27, 2025 on Saturday. They skirted past the Valley Lumberjacks 7-6.

Addison Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wirt County got a big performance out of Kinsley Nicolais, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Nicolais has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylee Noland, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wirt County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.

Wirt County's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Valley beat Wirt County by a score of 17-7 later that day.
