Basketball Recap: Chaparral Victorious

Chaparral posted their closest win since January 4th on Thursday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 55-54 victory over the Monarch Coyotes.

Chaparral's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lauren Thompson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Thompson has posted since back in January. Maddie Jenkins was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only pulled down eight.

When it comes to explaining why Monarch lost, don't look at Sienna Williams. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 34 points and 21 rebounds. Williams' big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Weiss, who scored 12 points.

The win got Chaparral back to even at 1-1. As for Monarch, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Chaparral has already played their next matchup, a 52-48 victory against Fort Collins on the 6th. As for Monarch, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-19 win against Skyview on the 6th.
