Basketball Recap: Schley County Comes Up Short

Schley County was the 49-43 winner over Marion County when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The Schley County Wildcats were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 40-39 to the Marion County Eagles. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Schley County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamesen Hollomon dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds Hollomon has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Goodin, who had seven points and 16 boards.

Marion County was led to victory by Taylor Montgomery and Valencia Alridge. Montgomery dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds, while Alridge scored 12 points and five boards. Alridge has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Schley County's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Marion County, their record now sits at 13-11.

Schley County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-48 loss against Bowdon on the 18th. As for Marion County, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-65 defeat against Greenville on the 18th.
