Baseball Recap: Santa Clara Sets Scoring Season-High Against Villanova Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Clara). They blew past the Villanova Prep Wildcats 9-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Saints have posted against the Wildcats since April 4, 2019.

Lucas Mendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mendez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jonatan Herrera was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Santa Clara's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Villanova Prep, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Santa Clara will face off against Cate at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Villanova Prep will be paying especially close attention to the Saints' game: after the Saints faces off against Grace, they'll take on Villanova Prep again at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
