Walkertown is 0-6 against Rockingham County since April of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Walkertown Wolfpack will take on the Rockingham County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Rockingham County will be up against a hot Walkertown squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. Walkertown put the hurt on Atkins with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Wolfpack this season.
Taylor Isley and Savannah Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Isley scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Miller went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Miller's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sadie Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Walkertown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .632. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Rockingham County took on Dudley on Tuesday. Rockingham County never let Dudley get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Ava Grace Pruitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Kennidy Kirby was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one triple while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Lily Strittmatter was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
Rockingham County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.8 runs. As for Walkertown, their record is now 6-0.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walkertown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Rockingham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
