Baseball Game Preview: Williams Field Black Hawks vs. Hamilton Huskies

The Williams Field Black Hawks will head out to challenge the Hamilton Huskies at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Williams Field is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Williams Field fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Red Mountain on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mountain Lions by a score of 8-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Black Hawks in their meetings with the Mountain Lions: they've now lost three in a row.

Jaxon Valdez put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Valdez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Silas Stephens, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Stephens has posted since back in April of 2024. Asher Landry was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Hamilton won against Brophy College Prep on Monday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Hamilton beat Highland by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-1. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Hamilton pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Williams Field, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Williams Field couldn't quite get it done against Hamilton in their previous matchup back in March of 2015 as they fell 5-0. Can Williams Field avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
