Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Spartans vs. Mogadore Wildcats

The Springfield Spartans will square off against the Mogadore Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield will be strutting in after a victory while Mogadore will be coming in after a defeat.

Springfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Coventry on Wednesday, sneaking past 7-5. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on David Thurston, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Justus Pence also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Mogadore was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Lake Center Christian, falling 10-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Mogadore's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Springfield, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-13.

Springfield suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Mogadore in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
