Basketball Recap: Columbus International Now 12-2 over Last 14 Games

Columbus International hadn't done well against Beechcroft recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Columbus International Lions took down the Beechcroft Cougars 64-45. The Lions pushed the score to 47-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cougars cut but never quite recovered from.

Columbus International got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leila Carter out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards. Carter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 18 games she's played. Marley Benson was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals.

Columbus International smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Beechcroft lost, don't look at Sha?Mya Dukes. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points and three steals. That was a full 51.1% of Beechcroft's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Raji Lattimore also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Columbus International has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Beechcroft, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.

Columbus International didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-33 victory against South on the 3rd. Beechcroft has also already played their next matchup, a 68-33 defeat against Centerburg on the 3rd.
