Preview: Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles vs. Cathedral Fighting Irish
Guerin Catholic is 0-5 against Cathedral since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Cathedral Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Guerin Catholic has three straight victories, Cathedral has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Guerin Catholic strolled past Covenant Christian with points to spare, taking the game 47-31.
Guerin Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emery Cardinal led the charge by scoring 10 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Morelli, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cathedral lost to Zionsville at home by a decisive 42-23 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Cathedral can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Zionsville is ranked 14th).
Their wins bumped Guerin Catholic to 4-5 and Covenant Christian to 1-6.
Guerin Catholic suffered a grim 50-26 defeat to Cathedral in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Guerin Catholic, Layla Gold (who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
