Baseball Recap: River Islands Comes Up Short

River Islands fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Venture Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4. The matchup marked the Riptide's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Matthew Echivarre was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for River Islands and nudges their season record down to 6-3. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Venture Academy, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Venture Academy beat River Islands by a score of 11-1 on Friday.
