Baseball Game Preview: Moorhead Spuds vs. Minnetonka Skippers

The Moorhead Spuds are taking a road trip to square off against the Minnetonka Skippers at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Moorhead is headed into the match having just suffered their closest defeat since May 3, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Marshall by a score of 4-2.

Moorhead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Heinsch, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Minnetonka had taken St. Michael-Albertville down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Skippers fell just short of the Knights by a score of 4-3. The loss put an end to the Skippers' undefeated start to the season.

Jack Butterworth was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Moorhead beat Minnetonka 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spuds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
