Recap: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. La Veta Redhawks
The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Monday. They claimed a resounding 57-19 win over La Veta at home. The win was familiar territory for Sangre de Cristo who now have four in a row.
Sangre de Cristo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Presley Wilson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Audrina Knorr was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on 12 points, nine rebounds, and ten steals.
La Veta's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Baudino, who scored no points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, and Jaiden Goemmer who scored no points along with 13 rebounds and five steals. Goemmer is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season.
Sangre de Cristo is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for La Veta, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sangre de Cristo won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Custer County at 4:30 p.m. on February 6th. Custer County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for La Veta, they will be playing at home against Cotopaxi at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully La Veta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday.
