Basketball Recap: Concordia Lutheran Comes Up Short

Concordia Lutheran lost against St. Thomas Catholic back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Concordia Lutheran Crusaders lost 78-57 to the St. Thomas Catholic Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1014th, while the Eagles are ranked 388th).

Despite the defeat, Concordia Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaxon Coleman went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Cameron Green, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Concordia Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-24 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for St. Thomas Catholic, they moved to 16-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, Concordia Lutheran and St. Thomas Catholic will both be playing St. Pius X the next time they take the court. St. Thomas Catholic will head out to face St. Pius X at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Concordia Lutheran will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
