Basketball Game Preview: Milford Bearcats vs. South Newton Rebels

Milford is on a four-game streak of home losses, South Newton a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Milford Bearcats will host the South Newton Rebels at 8:00 p.m.

Milford is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Milford was beaten by Georgetown-Ridge Farm 63-35. The Bearcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-9.

Meanwhile, South Newton had to endure a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged North White out 35-32. The 35-point effort marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Milford better focus on containing Colton Marks and Jeffrey Forney as the pair were huge in South Newton's win. Marks went 5 for 12 en route to 13 points and three steals, while Forney posted seven points in addition to five boards and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Marks has scored at least a third of South Newton's points. Nathan Coleman was another key player, putting up.

South Newton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

South Newton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Milford, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Milford beat South Newton 63-54 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was South Newton's Matthew Armstrong, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds.
