Basketball Game Preview: Brighton Bengals vs. Mount Olive Christian

The Brighton Bengals will challenge Mount Olive Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Brighton's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Mount Olive Christian has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Last Tuesday, Brighton was fully in charge, breezing past First Baptist Christian 51-24. The Bengals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Brighton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cole McCurry, who went 9 of 13 en route to 19 points and six rebounds, and Damon Scott, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave McCurry a new career-high in points. William Arrington was another key player, putting up six points and four blocks.

Brighton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mount Olive Christian had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 35-29 W over Varsity Opponent on Tuesday.

Brighton better keep an eye on Dylan Lewis. He was instrumental in Mount Olive Christian's win, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 21 boards. That makes it 29 consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least a third of Mount Olive Christian's points.

Mount Olive Christian's victory bumped their record up to 12-19. As for Brighton, they have also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Brighton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mount Olive Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 55-50 win.
