Zach Silva and Chris Thompson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Manzano. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in 5A District 2 this season.

La Cueva extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Monarchs, 28-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Bears.

Silva and Cliff Kindred gave La Cueva a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Silva threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while Kindred ran for 67 yards. Michael Rose also contributed to the rushing game with 38 yards on the ground.

Josh Alvarez was the best wideout in the league this week as Manzano fell to terry cooper's team. Alvarez racked up seven receptions for 136 yards. Skyler Walker helped Manzano's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 61 yards.

5-foot-9 quarterback Angel Gonzales of Chad Adcox's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1874. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, the Bears' Rose has rushed for 1015 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Thompson. The La Cueva star has 47 catches for 840 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Monarchs and Eldorado. Manzano enters the game ranked eighth in the state, while the Eagles ranks 18th.

Going into this week's game against Eldorado, the Monarchs' Gonzales needs 126 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when La Cueva takes on Sandia. The Bears' offense has scored 307 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Matadors have allowed only 149 on the year.
