Recap: Vero Beach Indians vs. St. Edward's Pirates
The Vero Beach Indians had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past St. Edward 75-35 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Vero Beach has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vero Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Holderman, who scored 21 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holderman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Shelly, who scored 12 points along with six assists and six steals.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayzere Cannon, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Anderson, who scored eight points.
Vero Beach is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for St. Edward's, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vero Beach won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Okeechobee at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Okeechobee is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for St. Edward's, they will be playing at home against Jensen Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Cordell Wilkins and Nate Sparkman.
