West Laurens extended their winning streak to eight on Friday, bumping them up to 8-0. They breezed past the Hephzibah Rebels to the tune of 42-7. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.

West Laurens had a senior duo take command as Cason Pollack threw for 160 yards and three TDs while completing 75% of his passes and Branden Brooks gained 181 total yards. Brooks was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 57 yards.

West Laurens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 248 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 176 rushing yards in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.

One reason for the win was West Laurens' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Maxx Chafin was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making ten total tackles.

As for Hephzibah, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 281st, while West Laurens is ranked 95th).

Despite the loss, Hephzibah had strong showings from Reante Byrd, who rushed for 79 yards and one score, and Roosevelt Habersham, who rushed for 71 yards.

Meanwhile, Hephzibah will take on rival Academy of Richmond County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Byrd and Mykheal Smith.
