Basketball Recap: St. Anselm's Abbey's Run of Nine Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of nine wins, St. Anselm's Abbey's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to the Parkside Eagles 60-56. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' District of Columbia basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Eagles are ranked 21st).

St. Anselm's Abbey lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Max Leeman, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points. The match was Leeman's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rooke Payne, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Parkside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Colby Murphy out in front who put up 20 points. Murphy is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 20 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marquette Geddie, who had 13 points.

St. Anselm's Abbey's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Parkside, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-7.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the St. Anselm's Abbey Panthers face off against the Washington Christian Academy Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkside has already played their next game (against Friendship Tech Prep Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
