Softball Recap: Grant's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Grant made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Destrehan, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Grant Cougars put the hurt on the Destrehan Wildcats with a sharp 13-6 win on Saturday. Considering the Cougars have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Kirtland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Audeleigh Carpenter was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carleigh Roe, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Carpenter wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Grant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Grant moved to 5-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Destrehan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Grant will host Avoyelles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Destrehan, they will challenge Ascension Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
