Baseball Recap: JW North Triumphs

While JW North's victory against Perris wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Huskies had just enough and edged out the Panthers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted since April 8th.

Carlos Pena made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because JW North is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-13-1 otherwise. Pena was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Pena wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Zamora, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Another was Santiago Castillo, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for JW North and bumps their season record up to 9-14-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Perris, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.

JW North has already played their next contest, an 8-7 victory against Hemet on the 4th. As for Perris, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-4 loss against Rancho Verde on the 4th.
