Softball Preview: South Gwinnett Comets vs. Rockdale County Bulldogs
The South Gwinnett Comets will head out to take on the Rockdale County Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Rockdale County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on South Gwinnett, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, South Gwinnett narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Central Gwinnett 15-14. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Comets.
South Gwinnett got a massive performance out of Carley Davis, who went 3-for-3 with a home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Surai Williams, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, South Gwinnett lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've earned since back in September of 2023.
Meanwhile, Rockdale County started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Clarke Central. They lost 19-4 to the Gladiators on Thursday.
Rockdale County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laniya Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
South Gwinnett's record now sits at 2-0. As for Rockdale County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
