Baseball Recap: Southwestern Takes a Loss

After flying high against North Greene on Thursday, Southwestern came back down to earth. The Piasa Birds fell 5-1 to the Greenville Comets on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-2 back in April.

Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 10-17. As for Greenville, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwestern will challenge Gillespie at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Miners have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Greenville, they will host North Clay/Clay City at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comets 2.5, North Clay/Clay City 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
