Football Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Highland

Highland extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping them up to 5-1. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 39-34 W against the Manual Thunderbolts. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Huskies also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Highland, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Elijah Elder, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Daryan Shaw.

Highland's defensive line made their presence known, laying out Marcus Keller three times. In that department, Brogan Palmer was the leader with two sacks. He has been hot for a while, having also posted six or more total tackles the last nine times he's played.

As for Manual, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2. Despite 178 more yards than Highland, the Thunderbolts couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why Manual lost, don't look at Keller. Despite the final result, he threw for 280 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Denver West at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Manual, they will venture away from home to square off against The Pinnacle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
