The Maine South Hawks will square off against the New Trier Trevians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Maine South comes in on three and New Trier on seven.
Maine South is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Lane Tech. Six seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Connor Griffin looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Constantine Coines was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Evan Adamczewski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, New Trier had just enough and edged out Glenbrook North 3-2 on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Trevians have won by just one run.
New Trier also got a great performance from Henrik Conniff as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cj Donnelly, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zach Perchik, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Maine South pushed their record up to 22-16 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for New Trier, their record is now 29-7-1.
Maine South came up short against New Trier in their previous meeting back in May, falling 3-0. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
