Baseball Game Preview: Polytech Panthers vs. Wilmington Charter Force

The Polytech Panthers will square off against the Wilmington Charter Force at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Polytech has three straight victories, Wilmington Charter has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a proper cat-fight when Polytech faced off against DuPont on Thursday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win.

Blake Knight and Deacon Herring made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Knight struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Herring pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave Knight a new career-high. At bat, Knight went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Herring went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Makai Parker was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijiah Benton, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Wilmington Charter came up short against Tower Hill on Thursday and fell 5-2.

Wilmington Charter's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Polytech, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Polytech beat Wilmington Charter 12-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Force have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
