Baseball Game Preview: Papillion-LaVista South Titans vs. Norfolk Panthers

Papillion-LaVista South is 6-1 against Norfolk since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Titans will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. Papillion-LaVista South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Papillion-LaVista South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Millard West, who was ranked 19th at the time (Papillion-LaVista South was ranked 20th). The Titans blew past the Wildcats 10-3 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Papillion-LaVista South got a great performance from Cameron Curtis as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Curtis has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emmett Minderman and Blake Wilsey did most of the damage at the plate: Minderman scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Wilsey went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those three hits gave Minderman a new career-high. Donnie Rosenthal was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Papillion-LaVista South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millard West only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, Norfolk came up short against Malcolm on Saturday, falling 18-3.

Norfolk saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brenden Flood, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Papillion-LaVista South's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Norfolk, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Papillion-LaVista South beat Norfolk 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
