Baseball Game Preview: Paradise Valley Trojans vs. Shadow Mountain Matadors

The Paradise Valley Trojans will challenge the Shadow Mountain Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Paradise Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Paradise Valley was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against North on Thursday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 22-1 victory. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jordy Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Paradise Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-7 otherwise. Nelson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tadeo Salinas was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Drew England was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Paradise Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Shadow Mountain fell victim to Greenway and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Demons, falling 8-0. The Matadors haven't had much luck with the Demons recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Shadow Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 6-9-1. As for Paradise Valley, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
