Basketball Recap: Arrowhead Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Parker Distleberg and Anthony Gerome

It was a Battle of the Birds when Arrowhead Christian faced off against Yucaipa on Saturday. The Arrowhead Christian Eagles fell 59-49 to the Yucaipa Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 210th).

Arrowhead Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Gerome, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds, and Parker Distleberg, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Young, who had ten points.

Jonathan Campbell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Yucaipa, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 21 rebounds. That's the most boards Campbell has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Lerma, who put up eight points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Arrowhead Christian moved to 8-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Yucaipa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Arrowhead Christian and Hillcrest will round out the year against one another at at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hillcrest has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 186 points over their last three contests. As for Yucaipa, they will host Palm Desert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Yucaipa will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
