Softball Game Preview: Bishop Fenwick Falcons vs. Bellbrook Golden Eagles

Bishop Fenwick hasn't had much luck against Bellbrook recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will challenge the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Bishop Fenwick has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bishop Fenwick came up short against Archbishop McNicholas on Wednesday, falling 18-1. The matchup marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Bishop Fenwick saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Myles Carolyn, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Stanaford Jessica also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Bellbrook made easy work of Edgewood on Wednesday and carried off a 9-2 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Abigail Hebrank (2028) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Heidi Pummell (2027), who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kelsey Kenney (2027) was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Bellbrook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Bellbrook and bumps their season record up to 3-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Bishop Fenwick, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Bishop Fenwick might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Bellbrook in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
