Basketball Recap: Cardinal Newman Comes Up Short

Cardinal Newman was the 59-47 winner over Ben Lippen when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cardinal Newman Cardinals received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 62-46 to the Ben Lippen Falcons.

Despite the defeat, Cardinal Newman saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luis Echevarria dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Echevarria has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Santonia Young, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Cardinal Newman's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Ben Lippen, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 14-1.

Cardinal Newman will host First Baptist School at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Newman is facing First Baptist School at the right time seeing as First Baptist School is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Ben Lippen, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 83-65 defeat against Augusta Christian on the 9th.
