Bayfield lost to Pagosa Springs back in October of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Bayfield Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-28 win over the Pagosa Springs Pirates.
Estevan Gonzales had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards. Bayfield also relied on Cade Grover, who's 45-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game.
Bayfield wouldn't let Pagosa Springs keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Logan Valencia, Keegan Johnston, and Lincoln Williams picked up one apiece.
Despite the loss, Pagosa Springs still got an impressive performance from Colton Lucero, who rushed for 400 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. Lucero also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles.
Bayfield's record is now 4-2. As for Pagosa Springs, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.
