Softball Preview: Westbrook Blue Blazes vs. Deering Rams
The Westbrook Blue Blazes will face off against the Deering Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Westbrook is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Bonny Eagle, who was ranked sixth at the time (Westbrook was ranked 16th). The Blue Blazes beat the Scots on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-4. The victory was nothing new for the Blue Blazes as they're now sitting on three straight.
Madison Ross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Greta Krantz and Emma Rice did most of the damage at the plate: Krantz went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Rice got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. Charlotte Krantz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Deering came up short against Scarborough on Thursday, falling 15-2. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Deering's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Westbrook, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
