Softball Recap: Woodlawn Comes Up Short

Woodlawn lost against Zeigler-Royalton back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Woodlawn fell 12-8 to Zeigler-Royalton. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

MaKayla Owens and Avery England did some serious damage despite the final result: Owens went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while England scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Owens a new career-high. Lauryn Allen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Woodlawn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.

Woodlawn now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Zeigler-Royalton, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodlawn will challenge Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carlyle's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Woodlawn's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Zeigler-Royalton, they will face off against Steeleville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
