Softball Recap: River Valley Mustangs vs. Westville Blackhawks
River Valley entered their contest against Westville on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The River Valley Mustangs lost 15-5 to the Westville Blackhawks. River Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
For Westville's part, Kierstin Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Vargas has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in 12 consecutive pitching appearances. Vargas was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Maddison Cole was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. River Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Westville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. River Valley will take on Eau Claire at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Westville, they will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Michigan City at 4:30 p.m.
