Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Caddo Magnet). Everything went their way against the Southwood Cowboys on Wednesday as the Caddo Magnet Mustangs made off with a 19-3 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Valerie Ruiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Caddo Magnet let Caitlyn Phillips and Landry McLamb run wild. Phillips went 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI, while McLamb went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those six RBI gave Phillips a new career-high. Grace Chaisson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Caddo Magnet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Caddo Magnet has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Southwood dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Caddo Magnet has already played their next game, an 11-1 victory against Loyola College Prep on the 19th. As for Southwood, they will take on Mansfield at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwood is facing Mansfield at the right time seeing as Mansfield is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
